Grounded in painting, Saunders' work crosses boundaries between that medium, photography, and short animated films. One-person exhibitions include the Tate Liverpool and the Renaissance Society in Chicago as well as Blum & Poe and Marian Goodman Gallery, where he is represented. His work has been seen in group exhibitions at the Whitney Museum, Museum of Modern Art, 2011 Sharjah Biennial, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Deutsche Guggenheim, Aspen Art Museum, University of Michigan Museum of Art, Sabanci Museum in Istanbul, and Artists Space in New York, and can be found in many public collections, including MoMA, SFMoMA, the Guggenheim, the Whitney, Tate, UCLA Hammer, Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Harvard Art Museums. Saunders earned his A.B. from the department of Visual and Environmental Studies in 1997, and his MFA from Yale in 2002, then spent many years living and working in Berlin. As a writer, Saunders is an occasional contributor to Artforum and other publications.
