Duane Slick and Martin Smick at Fruitlands Museum

  • Fruitlands Art Museum 102 Prospect Hill Road Harvard, MA, 01451 United States (map)

Please join us in the Art Museum for the opening of Finding Metacom: Artists Duane Slick & Martin Smick in Dialogue with The Fruitlands Native American Collection. The exhibit centers on the narratives that shape the telling of American History, specifically the great leader King Philip (Wampanoag name: Metacom).

Don’t miss hearing from the artists --- one who is Native American and the other who is of Anglo-American descent -- as they talk about their research into the truth about Metacom. They hope the exhibit inspires a spirit of reconciliation and greater understanding of the inherent conflicts between Native and European American identities. View a prized object in the Native American collection, King Philip’s war club, as well as paintings and other artwork. Take the opportunity to visit the Native American Museum to view a video installation that documents the display of the war club and locations associated with Metacom. Light refreshments provided.
