The 4th annual New England Graduate Media Symposium is happening this upcoming Wednesday April 5, 2017 at the Robert J Orchard Stage, Paramount Center at Emerson College.

This year's event is titled Unsettling: Reexaminations of Home. With guest speaker, photographer and video artist from Kazakhstan: Almagul Menlibayeva.

"As divisive US government policies increasingly emphasize the legal definitions of residency, citizenship, and origin, the concept of Home undergoes complex reframing. Unsettling: Reexaminations of Home will explore topics related to the shifting, at times contradictory definitions of home: as a place of origin defined by borders and familial or cultural lineage; as spaces of safety and belonging that move with people as they migrate or face displacement due to political, personal, or natural circumstances; and as non-places located in community interactions rather than specific sites."

The New England Graduate Media Symposium is an annual event hosted by the Visual and Media Arts Department of Emerson College and sponsored by VMA and the President's office. The purpose of this symposium is to create an occasion for graduate students from New England to formally present work from a range of disciplines to fellow graduate students, faculty, and professional colleagues.
