Join visual artist Lisa McCarty in the exhibition "Literary Spirit of Fruitlands Museum and The Old Manse" as she talks about her photographic series, "Transcendental Concord."

Lisa McCarty is a Durham, NC-based visual artist whose art is featured in the exhibition Literary Spirit of Fruitlands Museum and The Old Manse. Her photographic series, “Transcendental Concord” documents the places in Concord and Harvard where Bronson Alcott, his daughter Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Nathaniel Hawthorne lived, wrote, and talked about their ideas. She also photographs the landscapes that inspired them. In this talk presented on Thoreau’s 200th Birthday she will describe this series, her techniques and inspiration, and highlight some of her current work.

Lisa McCarty has participated in over 60 exhibitions and screenings at venues such as The Carnegie Museum of Art, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Chicago Photography Center, Houston Center for Photography, Griffin Museum of Photography, Asheville Art Museum, and the American University Museum. Lisa’s photographs have also been shown internationally in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Argentina. Additionally her moving images have been screened at festivals such as the New York Film Festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, Experiments in Cinema, Cairo Video Festival in Egypt, Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival in the UK, and Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival in Scotland.
