Anne Eder at Harvard Ceramics Program

Join us in welcoming Anne Eder to the lectern to tell us about her interdisciplinary studio practice. Anne uses clay as a sculptural element in her installations and photographic work. Anne is a familiar face at the Ceramics Program as a staff member.

Bio:

Anne Eder is an interdisciplinary artist and educator from Philadelphia. She holds an MFA in Photography and Integrated Media from Lesley University College of Art and Design where she has worked as an adjunct professor. She teaches courses and work by Anne Eder, top to bottom: Tales from the Fells; Holometabolous Objects; Tooth and Claw.independent workshops in alternative and material processes in photography and in interdisciplinary projects. Her print work is held in both public and private collections, and was presented this year at Unseen Amsterdam Photography Festival by curator, Susan Bright as one of her Top Ten Most Exciting Photographers. Her outdoor sculpture installations and site specific work may currently be seen in multiple locations in the Boston area. She cofounded and managed the Philadelphia artist cooperatives, Gallery X and The Space, and owned a Philadelphia based business in event design serving high profile clients including MTV. She has been awarded a Natalie Leaf Foundation Fellowship for Education in Arts, Crafts, and Trades, and maintains a commitment to the creation of public art in her practice, advocating for access to the arts for all regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience.


Her work has deep roots in folklore and fairy tales, taking a numinous approach to the natural world. She has a keen interest in the role of nature in the development of our core mythologies, and in the cultural significance of our appetite for creating and consuming fictions. She currently lives in Boston making monsters, writing fairy tales, and catering to her fabulous Chihuahua, The Brain.
